GME Job Fair Draws Great Interest
Job seekers from St. John the Baptist Parish and the River Parishes region showed up in full force looking to fill positions needed for the $3.2 billion Garyville Major Expansion (GME) project at Marathon’s Garyville refinery.
On April 28, more than 2,000 job seekers attend the day-long event which was held at the St. John Community Center in LaPlace. Marathon hosted the Job Fair along with support and attendance from ten GME contractors, the local job service and several vocational training organizations.
Marathon's Garyville Major Expansion project will require approximately 2,000 construction workers, and up to 4,000 workers at peak periods, as the 180,000 barrel per day expansion is being built. The Garyville refinery will add approximately 200 new jobs and 75 to 80 additional fixed-based contractors to help operate the expanded refinery.
