Project Benefits
![]() |
In addition to providing motorists with an additional 7.5 million gallons of ultra clean fuels a day, the GME is expected to provide significant benefits to the local and state economy. The completed expansion will add approximately 200 new full-time employees and 75 to 80 new full-time contract employees at the refinery. The construction phase will require an average of 2,000 workers, with up to 5,000 workers at peak periods.
In addition, it is projected that state and parish sales and use tax revenues will total approximately $60 million during the construction project. In 2006, the refinery generated $23.5 million in state tax revenue and $18.3 million in parish tax revenue.
